The following is an excerpt from Jib Fowles’ Article, Mass Media and the Star System: In the period between 1870 and 1920, first slowly and then with quickening ardor, Americans had become fascinated with entertainers. This fascination grew so intense that a group of performers obtained a historically unique degree of conspicuousness. Why did it happen? What was going on in the United States that can account for the phenomenal birth of the star role? The social changes that ...

I believe that God ordains every detail of our lives (Psalm 139:16), and that these details allow us to bring Him glory in unique ways. I have seen this clearly in my life. Even before I learned to read, I loved stories. And when I did learn to read, I constantly asked my teachers and librarians for more and better reading suggestions. After my parents went to bed, I often turned on the lamp in ...
Women Set Free This is a speech that I wrote that I would love to some day present to women at a retreat or women’s gathering. This will be my creative element to my term paper. I would love feedback!

Beginnings: Art, along with the artists producing art, should be at home within the community of the Church. More than that, the community that the faith of Christians calls them to should provide valuable collaborative community so strong, sure, and beneficial that the Arts Community will turn to it for salvation from the harmful production principles of our culture and society. It is more than possible for this to be true of churches, The Church, and ...

I stumbled across this article today– and appreciated the perspective. It discusses the idea of fiction bringing potentially unhealthy longings to the reader, especially with a series like Twilight. But it also acknowledged that the heart issue here is on how you view gender.

This is a compilation of pieces Scott Erickson created for his church in Texas for an Easter celebration. They are designed as tattoos for the intent of having people in the congregation that are interested having them done. It is an interesting piece of work that seems very fitting for the church context. Check out his inspiration.

This is a great, fun-to-read article from The Gospel Coalition blog on the inner workings of theology behind the hipster movement. http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/tgc/2012/11/26/the-hipster-in-all-of-us/

Recently, my friend sent me this article. Knowing I lean more egalitarian, she was curious as to what I thought about it. My initial response had almost nothing to do with my egalitarian leanings though, and had everything to do with the lack of an intellectual argument made on a blog– especially on a blog advertised by Candace Cameron Bure’s site. My obvious distaste for this article is also further supported, not only by the lack ...

I thought this was an interesting angle on Christian romance novels. Reading fiction is not the problem, but the expectations and effects they have on women. However, this article strongly promotes Christian romance because the medium “…isn’t about creating an illusion but holding up an ideal.” Thoughts? Click here for the article. P.S.-For the record, the name of this women’s blog is ridiculous.
This article right here is what I believe we all long to see in the places where we live and minister. Not only would I love to see full frontal opposition to the gospel and biblical Christianity at large in outspoken ways, but I would even more love to see the Church take that and use the opportunity in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit to see great things, revival, witness and martyrdom. Although it seems ...
I thought this was interesting but I really don’t know what to think of it. The word says our leads should be men who are well thought of by outsiders and above reproach (1 Tim 3:7) so how do I answer this issue? Naturally, all believers sin and should be given grace from the church but is this a deal breaking issue in respects to leading a church?
